Making your brain quicker by practicing meditation

A new study from Binghamton University researchers in a longitudinal examination indicated changes in brain resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) of people following a 2-month focused attention meditation (FAM) practice. These increment of rs-FC were seen in parts of the Default Mode Network (DMN) and the Dorsal Attention Network (DAN).

This alteration in the brain connectivity strength as a result of meditation, emphasis on the capability of brain in having changes even through daily activities. Additionally, these findings demonstrate that FAM can enhance the brain connection among and within brain networks, especially DMN and DAN, indicating potential effect of FAM on fast switching between mind wandering and focused attention and maintaining attention once in the attentive state.
